Memory (rough draft)

"Grandpa, who is that girl?"

"That's my Maddie.
She was the loveliest in the world."

"Where'd she go? I never got to meet her."

"She's in Heaven now. I know she's
smiling down, so proud of you."

"There you are, in the park!
That looks like fun!"

"Oh, yes, grandson. We spent that
day enjoying each other and the sun."

"Didn't you know how to feed yourself?
Look, she's got a pretty white dress!"

"I was the luckiest man alive.
But that cake sure made a big mess."

And so on it went, grandpa painted
his lively history for his grandson.
They were close, had so much fun.

"Grandpa? Do you remember me?"

"I don't know. I can't recall your face.
They've labelled all of my photographs,
I don't remember recent time or place."

"It's okay. I love you, grandpa."

"I wish I could say the same.
Where's my beautiful Maddie?
Is she coming to visit today?"

"Maddie can't come visit anymore.
She's living peacefully in Heaven."

"No! I saw her just yesterday.
Didn't I see her just yesterday?"

"Grandpa..."

"Go away! You tell me cruel lies!
Why are trying to make me cry?"

"I love you grandpa. It'll be okay."

"I'm so confused, I don't know what more there is to say.
I'll just lie here and stare at faces with unfamiliar names."
